This initiative has been a game-changer, instrumental in building a safety department that reflects the diversity of our community, fostering trust, and enhancing relationships between our residents and safety personnel. The positive impact of this initiative is already visible in our community, making our streets safer and our residents feel more secure.

Garrett has invested in the security of Akron wards by distributing Ring cameras. These cameras, strategically placed, serve as a constant watchful eye, helping deter crime and enhancing the security of our neighborhoods. They provide residents with a sense of safety, peace of mind, and an additional layer of protection, cultivating a sense of community and belonging.

Garrett believes in the power of investing in our youth. Garrett has been a constant advocate for increased funding for youth sports programs, ensuring our youth can access constructive activities promoting personal growth, teamwork, and leadership. These programs are vital in providing our youth with the skills they need to succeed.

In response to shooting and crimes that affected our community, Garrett has worked closely with the victims and their families to secure essential funding through the GAR Foundation and victim assistance programs. Garrett has provided crucial support and resources.

During Garrett’s Town Hall Meetings he has featured impactful and insightful discussions on public safety, with guest speakers such as: Captain Mike Miller, the highest-ranking Black police officer in Akron, provided valuable perspectives on public safety and the importance of diversity in our police force. Fire Chief Henderson shared his views on public safety from a Firefighter’s perspective and emphasized the need for a diverse and inclusive fire department.

Garrett has been tirelessly working on new legislation to improve public safety, address gun violence, enhance youth sports programs, and tackle homelessness in our city. These initiatives are designed to create lasting positive change and ensure a brighter future for all Akron residents.
