Ward 9 Council Representative

Tina Boyes represents Ward 9 on Akron City Council, serving Kenmore and surrounding areas. Elected in November 2023 as a first-time candidate, she was sworn into office in 2024, bringing more than two decades of experience in nonprofit leadership, community development and public service.

In 2017, Tina launched the Kenmore Better Block, a nationally recognized grassroots revitalization initiative that temporarily transformed Kenmore Boulevard into a vibrant, walkable arts and business district—sparking more than $1 million in new investment, inspiring permanent streetscape and programming improvements, and reintroducing Kenmore Boulevard as a community destination. That same year, she became the first executive director of Better Kenmore Community Development Corporation (formerly Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance), where she led business revitalization, property development and community engagement initiatives that led to the addition of Kenmore Boulevard to the National Register of Historic Places.

Before that, Tina served 13 years as  the vice president of marketing and communication at Akron Community Foundation, where she led strategic communications, donor engagement and brand-development initiatives that spurred multi-million dollar growth and impact throughout greater Akron.

A graduate of Kenmore High School, Miami University and Leadership Akron Class 32, Tina is a fifth-generation Kenmore resident who comes from a long tradition of civic engagement. Both her father, Don Brode, and grandfather, George Brode, served on Akron City Council, instilling in her a deep commitment to strengthening neighborhoods and improving the quality of life for residents.

A past vice chair of the City of Akron Planning Commission, Tina currently serves on the Planning and Economic Development; Budget and Finance; Parks and Recreation; and Health and Social Services committees.
