Akron City Council Announces Plans for
Solar Eclipse on April 8th
Akron, Ohio, March 28, 2024 — Today, Akron City Council announced its plans for the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th.
On Monday, April 8th, in-person services typically provided by the Office of the Clerk and Council Administration will not be available. Requests for assistance will be handled by telephone until 12 noon. Those who require assistance can call 330-375-2256 or visit Council’s website at www.akroncitycouncil.org.
All Committee Meetings and the 6:30 p.m. Council Meeting are canceled for the day. “We wanted to encourage and create space for our residents and the visitors to our city to enjoy this amazing phenomenon”, said Council President Margo Sommerville. This solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime event that should be experienced by all.”
The city will host an eclipse event in downtown Akron outside at 510 S. Main St. (the parking lot behind Spaghetti Warehouse). The event will include entertainment options such as a balloon artist and juggler, musicians, a reptile show, DJ Jul, face painting, and more. There will be food and beverages available for purchase including alcoholic beverages. Registration is free but you will have the option of buying reserved parking for $10. Bring your friends and family, some chairs, and blankets, and enjoy a day of fun and excitement.
